Full-Scale Cessna Simulator Study: 2018

by Kathleen Van Benthem, PhD. ACE Lab Carleton University

We have been busy here at the ACE Lab and are about to embark on a new Cessna 172 study. We have added a new feature where pilots will fly with ForeFlight on an iPad for part of the flight. As well, we will be adding a virtual reality-based cognitive health assessment tool that we designed. We are very excited about this study, as it is a big step forward in our plans.

The ACE Lab at Carleton University is looking for participants!

You may participate if you:

  • are 18 years or older, and
  • have a current permit* or licence (aeroplane), and
  • have a current medical certification; and
  • have flown as pilot-in-command within the last 24-months
    • *students who have solo and cross-country experience may qualify

The study takes place over two sessions at the ACE Lab at Carleton University.

Previous participants are welcome.

Contact cessnastudy@gmail.com for more information or to register.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Full-Scale Cessna Simulator Study Seeks Participants

by Kathleen Van Benthem, Ph.D. & Alana Cooper, Institute of Cognitive Science

The ACE Lab at Carleton University is looking for participants!

This study will explore cognition and cross-country general aviation flight.

If you are:

  • a pilot or a pilot in training;
  • medically licensed to fly;
  • at least 40 years of age; and
  • interested in flying a full-scale Cessna 172 simulator

The study takes place over two sessions at the ACE Lab at Carleton University.

This study is quite different from the last one, so pilots can participate even if they were here before. Participation is completely voluntary. You will not be compensated monetarily or otherwise for participating in this study but parking costs will be paid for by the study.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Interested pilots please reply to Kathy Van Benthem.

Have you seen this Cessna 172?

From COPA HQ

Keep your eyes open for a red and white C-172F, registered C-FSQK.

It was stolen from a fellow COPA member on 16 September 2015, at Mascouche Airport (CSK3) Québec.

If you see it, please call your local police department.

Do You Own a Cessna?

If it is a 100 or 200 series single and was built between 1946 and 1986 then you will need to know about this new requirement that Cessna has added to the manuals for your annual inspection.

It actually isn't anything new and any sharp AME is probably doing all of it already, but as aircraft age the need to keep on top of metal fatigue and corrosion increases.

The inspections are simple, but necessary and as an owner you need to know what is being done to keep your aging Cessna flying.

* Powerpoint presentation on the new requirements (Zip file)

* You Tube video (4:37 in length)
