Vintage Wings Launches Newsletter

Vintage Wings, the private flying museum located at Gatineau Executive Airport, has launched a new newsletter to improve communications with everyone interested in the goings-on at the museum.

Vintage Wings explained the need for a new newsletter, saying:

This inaugural edition of the Vintage Wings of Canada newsletter, ‘The Roundel’, marks the beginning of a larger effort by Vintage Wings to provide everyone with regular and up to date information. Our intent with this first issue is alert you to important activities around the hangar, including updates on the aircraft, a heads up on upcoming activities, and some information on how you can enhance your experience with us.

The PDF-format newsletter is supplied free and anyone can sign up for notification of the availability of future issues.

It's just 8 weeks until the first vintage aircraft touches down here at Gatineau for the Wings over Gatineau-Ottawa en vol Air Show. Just 8 weeks to prepare and there is still lots to do. We are looking for volunteers of all ages to move mountains, spread the word, impress guests, inspire children, look good, escort veterans, secure aircraft and show lines, put up signs, park cars, pick up trash, sing songs, sell swag and share smiles.

WE NEED YOU!

You'll get a cool shirt, new skills, lasting memories, lots of sun, and a heart full of pride.

Come One, Come All! To the Vintage Wings of Canada Annual Volunteer Training Day!

This action packed day will be focused on preparing for our two day Air Show, Wings Over Ottawa-Gatineau En Vol, September 15th & -16th. The event is open to all current Vintage Wings volunteers, as well as, anyone interested in joining our volunteer team.

Beginning at 9:00 am, you will have the opportunity to sign-up for the Air Show team that you’re interested in being a part of and meet with your team leader. As a team, you will then brainstorm the roles and responsibilities of each member of your team and consider any equipment you will require.

A hearty BBQ lunch will be provided by the Spitfire Grill team which will keep you fueled up for the remainder of the day. Also at this time The Gear-up store will be open for business with some exciting new promotions. You’ll also meet our new Retail manager Julien Brown who will be looking for dedicated up beat volunteers to assist with our store operations at the hangar as well as assembling a team to take the show on the road attending many different Air Show events across eastern Canada.

After lunch, we will all gather for the coveted Distinguished Service Awards that will be awarded to a few volunteers who have gone above and beyond to help us Commemorate, Educate and Inspire. (If only we had enough plaques for everyone!)

Following the awards presentation we’ll all get together for the Annual VWC Squadron photograph.

For our planning purposes please ensure to let us know that you will be attending through the website to officially register yourself.

If you aren’t already a Member of Vintage Wings you can sign up for a free Friend account in order to register for this event.

Wardbird U at Vintage Wings

From Robert Fleck, President, Vintage Wings of Canada

Once again this winter we are offering our “Warbird U” series of educational ground schools. This year will feature the Harvard, Mustang, Spitfire, F-86 Sabre and Swordfish. The ground schools cost $250 for non members (Harvard $200) and $200 for members (Harvard $150). These are the exact same ground schools that our pilots have to take for recurrent training, so in addition to covering all aircraft systems, there is always discussion about how each pilot actually operates the plane, validated by our Warbird U guest who inevitably flew the aircraft in combat.

This is a fund raising event for Vintage Wings and the Canada Aviation and Space Museum. The ground schools make a nifty Christmas gift.

Complete details on the Vintage Wings Website.
