Moe's Fly-in 2015
Maurice Prud'homme's 26th annual Ottawa River Ice fly-in, sponsored by COPA Flight 169, is coming up this weekend!
Here are the details:
- Date: Saturday 28 February 2015
- Location: 45 26 57 N 75 55 48 W, one mile west of the Ottawa VOR, on the Ottawa River
- Runway: 34-16, 3280 feet X 100 feet, surface is ice and snow and may be ploughed if possible, skis are recommended
- Food: Provided!!
- Frequencies: Air 123.20 MHz, ground: 122.75 MHz

Mo's Ski Fly-in Coming Up!

Don't forget Mo's fly-in is on all day next Saturday, 23 February 2013, regardless of the weather. Come and talk about aviation and eat Mo's well known chili!
Right now we have a wheelplane runway 34-16, 2600 feet long and 100 feet wide with a northwest extension of 1000 feet by 50 feet. The runway condition is currently 1 to 2 inches of compacted snow, with no slippery ice showing. The ice thickness is more than 20 inches.
Details:
- Ski planes can land on the runway or besides the runway.
- Helicopters can land northwest of the publicity signs close to the shore.
- 1 mile West of the Ottawa VOR on the Ottawa river.

First Van’s Aircraft RV8 on penetration Wheel/Skis


By Patrick GilliganDecember 17th, on a cold morning while the fields were frozen, aerodynamic and flight tests were conducted at Indian Creek airstrip in Ontario on a RV8 equipped with a Lycoming O-360.
The skis were designed and built by amateur aircraft builder Patrick Gilligan. Inspired by simplicity and repair ability, these skis are bolted together using a combination of UHMW, hardwood Plywood and aluminum rectangle tube. Fasteners are stainless steel, bungees are landing gear chock cords and Galvanized steel cables make up the limiting cables.
Why install skis? Skis are an additional safety for flying during late Fall, Winter and early Spring where the ground is soft and in the event of an emergency the aircraft can be landed on soft surfaces, frozen lakes, rivers and fields without tearing off the landing gear or flipping upside down. Although in very deep snow chances are the aircraft may flip but with minimal damage. Cruise performance decreased by only 4-6 MPH and lift increased slightly.
