Pigs and Pies in Westport - Cancelled!!

by Mike Miles, Rideau Lakes Flying Club/COPA Flight 56

Planes from all over Ontario and Quebec generally fly in for the day if the weather is good. Last year we had 50+ different kinds of planes to see. The variety of planes is generally diverse, so a great opportunity to fly your own plane in and to talk with pilots of other makes and models. We have a fabulous spread of Octoberfest sausages (the Pigs) and locally baked pies (the Pies) available for a simple donation.

Love to see you and your members back at Westport on Saturday October 06, either as single plane but preferably as groups of planes from your own Club. For more information you can contact me at 613-276-6276 or Bill Green at (613) 273-5282.

Details

  • Date: Saturday 06 October 2018
  • Time: 11:00–14:00

Just received today from the club:

"Well, we've waited as long as we can for mother nature to smile on us and this fall, we have only a frown. The Possibility of Precipitation (POP) for Saturday has remained steady at 70% pretty well all week. There was a rush of hope on Wednesday when it went down to 60% but even that has been dashed today.

"So I guess it is time to bow to the inevitable and officially cancel the Pigs and Pies fly-in for this year. I am sending out this e-mail to all of the Captains that I have contacted along with the fliers from past fly-ins to try to give you a heads up, although all of the fliers would be checking the weather on Saturday anyway. But it is only right that we let you know of this decision as far in advance as we can.

"This does not mean that as a SOCIAL opportunity we will not be having a Pigs and Pies meal at the clubhouse on the Saturday anyway. We know that we will have some walk-in from town who don't understand weather and flying and its always nice to greet them at the clubhouse with some food and hospitality. So a few of us will be there bright and early on Saturday morning to fire up the bar-b-que and show them a good time. If the spirit moves you, why not come on down and join us, eat one of those great sausages with sauerkraut and gulp down some pie. The show starts around 10:30 but the coffee will be on before that so come on down to start the day with a cup.

"Sorry about the flying but we can still have a great day.

"See you at the field."
